The park was created by the priest Jöns Henriksson in the last half of the 17th century. You can experience it both on site and in the exhibition room in the Kulturhuset in Östra Sallerup. The park is walled and divided into four blocks, separated by roads and canals. In one of the blocks, the text CAROLVS XI MONARCHA SVECIÆ is built up of stones that form nine-meter-high letters. In another block, twenty-five stone circles form something resembling a compass rose whose diameter is ninety meters. Closest to the rectory are ponds that were used for fish farming, all in Renaissance style.
Jöns Henriksson’s park is always open to visitors. Please note that parking is at the Kulturhuset.
The exhibition has information about the park, the priest – who was original in other ways as well, and Sallerup’s squadron – which was part of the defenses the Swedes built up. A model at a child-friendly height shows what the park and village might have looked like in the 1680s. There are drop-in visits and the room is staffed at certain times, see below.
Guided tours are available at fixed times and by prior reservation with the Jöns Henrikssons Minne Association. Guided tours can be coordinated between the three associations in Östra Sallerup.
