Below, we share suggestions for where you can stop to eat, experience, and stay along the cycle route that runs from one corner of Skåne to the other. Start by checking out the Lomma–Kristianstad cycle route. Download it as a GPX file and open it in an app called GPX Viewer. Then you’ll have the route with you on your phone the whole time. Your cycling holiday can begin!
Sleep in a Scanian castle
Start your bike tour in, for example, Lomma or Lund. As soon as you get outside Lund, you’ll feel the wonderful atmosphere of the countryside. Here you cycle past rolling fields, small villages with cosy cafés, and Scanian farms. Feeling tired? Then why not check in for the night and enjoy a calm evening. We can recommend the castle suite at Örtofta slott. Or, well… there are also single and double rooms. Keep in mind you need to be a group of 12 to book. But bring your group of friends along on the cycling holiday and sleep like a prince and princess. And just imagine getting married here! Or tip your boss about hosting the next conference here.
Experience true artisanal food craftsmanship
After Örtofta, it’s time to make room in your bike basket. Here you’ll pass the very best farm shop, Bränneriets gård. They serve fantastic lunch and fika made from their own homegrown vegetables and other local products. At Bränneriets gård, sustainability is a true passion, and everything is done the old farm-style way—without petrol-powered machines that damage the soil. You’ll find local, sustainably produced alternatives to imported lentils. They also make their own ice cream, chocolate, marmalades, and many other delicacies—crafted by hand from their own ingredients. This is solid, sustainable artisanal food production. Psst! The chocolate is heavenly…
Visit a Scanian distillery
With a full stomach and in good spirits, it’s just right to stop by Ellinge slott—a fantastic Scanian castle where you can book a conference, wedding, lovely family celebration, or other hyggelig gatherings. At Ellinge slott, you can also join a guided tour of their distillery. This is where premium Scanian vodka and gin are produced, made with organic ingredients—drinks that have received over 200 international awards. Purity Distillery is a family business with a passion for quality, sustainability, and unforgettable flavours. They value old traditions and distil all spirits with great patience on site at Ellinge Slott. What an experience!
and a brewery
You’re probably feeling tired after all that food and drink, so it might be a good idea to recharge in Eslöv. We recommend Hotel Stensson. A historic hotel in a modern setting, with luxurious and wonderfully comfortable beds. If you don’t have plans for the evening, take a trip out to Remmarlöv gårdsbryggeri. They often host brewery tours with beer tastings and a relaxed, friendly vibe.
Art, golf, and gardens
Recharged and full of new energy, you cycle like the wind toward Lake Ringsjön! Here you can take a detour and discover the wonderful
Bosjökloster slott, which offers a restaurant, art exhibitions, an unbelievably beautiful garden, and much more. Right next door you’ll find one of
Skåne’s best golf courses – Bosjökloster GK.
Nature experience and forest spa
The cycle route itself runs north of Lake Ringsjön toward Höör. But take the opportunity to book a wonderful nature experience with
Robusta Äventyr. Hike into the forest, cook over an open fire, and enjoy the stillness. Want to spend the night out in the woods? No problem—check in to the
unique accommodation Nyrups Naturhotell. End the evening with a forest spa in the hotel’s own bathhouse—a sauna with a view of the forest and tubs of water to ladle over yourself. You probably won’t find anything more close to nature than this in Skåne.
Spa, nature, and cosy beds
Maybe you’re longing for a bit of village life again after a night in the forest? Check in at
Höörs Gästgiwaregård, a historic gem with fantastic rooms, a spa, and great food. Or try
Stiftsgården Åkersberga at the other end of the village. They also have a fantastic spa with distinctive, wonderfully tranquil décor and a lovely little forest to enjoy. If you’d rather stay right by Lake Ringsjön and enjoy fishing, swimming, and lake views, cycle down to the lake and check in at
Jägersbo Camping.
Once you’ve checked in, hop back on your bike and pay a visit to
Lillgårdens Bi & Trädgård in Maglasäte, west of Höör. You can actually stay there too, if you’d rather live out in the countryside in a lovely little cottage. Either way, you’ll find a wonderful garden here, along with locally extracted honey, delicious homemade and locally produced delicacies, and a peaceful rural calm.
You can also head a bit further along the cycle route to
Villa Granliden for a good night’s sleep, a magnificent garden, and an exciting trail into the forest. In the woods, a small stream runs by, and there’s a truly lovely little barbecue spot right next to it, where you can grill your dinner, eat, and enjoy the babbling stream beneath the tree canopy. It feels like being in primeval forest.
Skåne from horseback
Tired of cycling? Take a little break from it and head over to
Aspås turridning. It’s located a bit east of Höör. They have gentle Icelandic horses that beginners, experienced riders, young and old alike can ride. Take the chance to experience the forest from the back of a horse—it adds a whole new dimension.
Once you’re in Fulltofta, you simply have to stop and experience nature. At
Naturum in Fulltofta, you’ll get all the information you need. You can also stop here for fika and food. You can also take a closer look at all of Skåne’s storks, which often gather at
Fulltofta stork enclosure. Truly an experience to see these large birds up close. You’ll also pass
Fulltofta slott—another fantastic castle in Skåne where you can book a conference, party, or wedding. A Scanian gem with a Mediterranean feel.
More beer and music nights
In Fulltofta, there are no fewer than two breweries! So if we were you, we’d stay the night at
Ringsjöstrand camping and then cycle around to enjoy both beer, live music, and hyggelig vibes at
Fulltofta Gård & Bryggeri 1766 – handcrafted drinks and music in a beautiful cultural setting next to Fulltofta church, overlooking Lake Ringsjön – and
Fulltofta Gårdsbryggeri , run by enthusiasts driven by passion and the desire to make great beer in many exciting styles.
Sweden’s cannibal museum
From Fulltofta, the cycle route passes by lovely Hörby, where you can stop for fika and food at friendly places with great service. From there, the journey continues north toward Linderöd and Kristianstad. Maybe you change your mind and opt for
the Båstad–Ystad cycle route, which crosses the Lomma–Kristianstad route right in the middle of Hörby. If so, there’s even more to discover. And by “exciting,” we mean truly exciting:
Sweden’s only cannibal museum is located outside Önneköp. It’s run by the travelling Arnold, who has collected all kinds of items from his amazing journeys around the world. The little village of Önneköp has plenty more to offer too, including a genuine old general store and a museum.
Best of luck on your cycling holiday. 🙂
